Boga Lake
Possibly the most beautiful lake in Bangladesh, Boga Lake sits atop a hilly elevation bounded on three sides by mountain peaks. The trip to Boga Lake is an adventure in itself with its narrow meandering mountain route traversing steep scrambles. Along the shores, local tribespeople collects water, bathe and catch fish.
Buddha Dhatu Jadi – Bandarban Golden Temple
A pilgrimage site for the Buddhist community, Buddha Dhatu Jadi stands proudly beneath the blue sky in the remote Bandarban Hill District. Also known as the Golden Temple or ‘Kyang’ by the locals, visitors pass through its impressive golden gates before taking off their shoes to admire the architecture and explore the intricate carvings and shrines within. At the top of the high hill on which the temple rests in the ‘pond of angels’, a peaceful place from which to view the surrounding hills, vast greenery and the bustle of Balaghata town below.
Tajingdong Peak
The highest mountain in Bangladesh, Tajingdong translates to ‘great hill’ in English. Located in the Ruma Upazila district, this peak is the place to peek at the world through clouds. Local transport will take you to Ruma, where it’s a few hours trek to reach the heights of Tajingdong. On the way, hikers pass through deep forests, negotiate rolling green hills and tiny villages where the locals live in harmony with nature. Crystal clear streams and springs are dotted along the way and there are places to camp en route.
